For the new year I have decided to blog once a week...I realize that by posting this I will now be accountable for it. Dangerous. Very dangerous, coming from a woman whose last post was in July sometime. Brother. Anyway, on to the main event:
To prepare for the birth of our baby I signed us up for a class at LDS hospital. I was running the dates by Austin to make sure he could be there. He was hesitant to settle on one, and I asked him why. "Well is it going to be informative or are we going to have to sit around and talk about our feelings? I don't want to talk about my feelings." I told him the classes didn't come with "feeling sharing" disclaimers but I thought the one I picked was good. We didn't have to share our feelings but we did have to work in groups...which luckily for me is the lesser of the two evils for Austin. We also learned amazing things that unfortunately we can't ever erase from our minds, and that didn't help with the birth. For example, the uterus increases 50 times in surface area and 500 times in volume during pregnancy. Lovely, thank you.
Our amazing son was born on October 24 at 10:56 pm. We named him Calvin, and I won the "Best Wife Ever Award" for requesting the World Series on TV while we waited. Austin lit right up when I asked him to turn it on. It was an incredible experience thanks to my new best friend the anesthesiologist, and we LOVE our sweet boy.
Our first night at home I taught Austin to change a diaper. Almost immediately upon removing the diaper our baby sprayed daddy. Austin was quite flustered, but there was no way to mentally prepare him for the horror to follow. Two words: projectile poop...(need I continue?) Anyway, I will not attempt to describe Austin's face; go ahead and close your eyes and do your best to imagine it (I promise you it was even better than you imagined)...He was jumping around and making various disgusted noises. I finished up. Parenthood is truly a 'trial by fire' kinda deal.
You mentioned a few of these items when I saw you last, but never the projectile aim of your son! How hilarious! I can just imagine the reaction, and it's not like there was any way to help that man laugh about it for a while, I bet! Were you laughing? I can see that too...;)
ReplyDeleteCongrats again on your baby boy! So fun! And I love the story about the World Series and the diaper change!
ReplyDeleteThank you for my chuckle of the day.....Still laughing, sorry Austin.
