Life + Exercise + Trek = Burrito Baby

Austin is very aware of his physique.  Sometimes he will grab the extra inch of skin on his stomach and commit to more crunches.  I roll my eyes, but he is pretty serious about his exercise.  His new favorite toy is his big red exercise ball.  He bounces on it while Clark Kent saves the world and strengthens his core while he saves the world on his XBOX.  However, he just can't seem to get rid of that extra inch of skin around the middle.  It continues to plague him and I continue to lovingly roll my eyes as that "inch" of skin around my middle continues to grow :)

Momons in Utah participate in this crazy activity called Pioneer Trek.  Austin has never had the privilege of going on Trek because he grew up in California where they didn't do trek.  We were asked to organize the music for Trek this year so we got to go.  I kept telling Austin how much fun it would be, but from the beginning he was a pretty hard sell:
"So we dress up like pioneers, and walk?"
"Yep."
"How is that fun?"
Well we went.  Austin was amazing and walked the whole thing.  He did clean his feet every night with baby wipes I brought (best idea ever), and he discouraged me from taking my blanket out of the tent to sit by the fire:
"Nicole, it will get dirty."

"I won't drag it on the ground, I'm just going to wrap it around me."
"Oh, but everything is dirty out here.  The air is dirty, its going to touch the air."
We both laughed as I took the blanket and sat by the fire :)
Trek waaas pretty dirty, but we gained a lot in those few days.  We gained a lot of gratitude for those that came before us, and we gained a lot more gratitude for one another.  There is something about doing hard things together that strengthens a marriage like nothing else.

At the beginning of this year there were three pregnant Thorpe women.  I am the only one left, but all three of us have had/are having boys.  Austin and I were talking about the wonderful chaos that will be Christmas this year in San Diego.
Austin: "Yeah, but it won't be that crazy for us, our baby will only be a few months old.  Still a burrito baby.
Nicole: "A what?"
Austin: "Ya know a burrito baby.  It just lays there all wrapped up, not really fun yet."
So there you have it, that is an original Austin:   "BURRITO BABY"
Therefore, I have decided (Thank you Ann Hatch) that if the baby is born before Halloween I will make a costume run to Taco Bell.  Food?  Nope, just burrito wrappers.  I will glue them onto a blanket and wrap our burrito baby like a burrito.  Its going to be epic.  I may even include green and orange crepe paper strips for authenticity.  Pray that this baby comes early!!

  1. Austin is in for a treat if he thinks a baby a few months old is just a burrito baby...it goes by way to fast...and i know you hear that all the time, but it does.
